Drukair launches its flight to Guwahati Thursday, October 28, 2010 Drukair, the national flag carrier, will now fly to Guwahati with the launching of its maiden flight yesterday. This is expected to bring in more Indian tourists to the country. The 35 to 50 minutes duration flight from Paro to Guwahati will fly over the Dobji Dzong and Chapcha in Chhukha Dzongkhag. Our reporter, Sonam Ugyen, who took the flight, said that 20 minutes after being airborne, one could see the Brahamaputra River in India. The flight timing can differ depending on the weather. Speaking to Indian journalists the Director General of Tourism Council of Bhutan, Kezang Wangdi, said Bhutan was ready for the tourists from Assam and North East India. Meanwhile, for the people of Guwahati it was a dream come true as their airport has been upgraded to international status. The regular operation will begin from 31st of this month. On Sundays and Wednesdays it will fly from Paro to Bangkok via Guwahati and the incoming flights will operate on Thursdays and Mondays. The fare is Nu. 3,000 from Paro to Guwahati and Nu. 6,000 from Guwahati till Bangkok. Druk Air has also plans to launch flights to Singapore, Hongkong, and Mumbai.
